Although a ‘Pro’ machine, my MacBook only has a 256GB SSD installed. Whilst this is plenty for usual storage requirement (music, photos saved as JPEGs, documents etc.), I also like to keep all the RAW files from my Canon DSLR. This takes up space which I don’t want to sacrifice from my SSD, but also I don’t want to walk around with an SD card sticking out the side of my laptop (let alone try and place the laptop into a sleeve with the card still there!).
Whilst chatting with a colleague about this, he recommended an adapter he’d got from Amazon: the “Bosvision Aluminium Micro SD Adapter with silver edge for MacBook Pro Retina 13″/ MBPR*” (now there’s a title!).
Basically this is an adapter for a microSD card, which lets the card sit sideways within it, allowing it to be small enough to slide into the SD card slot on your laptop, so that it’s then flush with the outside. The edge of the adapter is coated in an aluminium brush so that it blends in with the rest of your machine.
The result is pleasing to the eye, and means that you have extra storage (in the form of an microSD card – mine’s 64GB) permanently mounted and at your disposal – win-win!
The adapter isn’t too expensive and can be bought directly from Amazon, and they do other adapters for other MacBooks, to match the shape of the SD card slot: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00QGLATK8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I hope this is useful to you!
